From June 2021 to November 2022 I worked as Lead Technical Artist on Social AR and AR Games for video calling at Meta. These experiences use networking capabilities to enable participants in a video call to share a moment in AR together, whether it's something as simple as taking a selfie together in a virtual space or as complex as a battle royale style bumper car game. See the project details and video captures below for more info.

AR Games

AR Games for video calling are multiplayer experiences that cover a wide variety of genres. Some are competitive, such as the battle royale bumper car game, and some are collaborative, such as the "Desert of Doom" game where callers need to guide each other through a dangerous sandstorm. See the videos below for examples of these games and specific descriptions.

Social AR

Social AR experiences are group video calling AR effects that create an environment that everyone can participate in. Unlike games, there isn't a specific goal to achieve - instead, callers can enjoy interacting with each other and simply existing in these different environments. Like the AR Games, many of these compose callers into the same screen space; my favorite example is the "Group Selfie" experience, which layers the video feeds of participants and makes it look like they're all in the same space.
